Station: Paisley: about 13 km from Milngavie at the southern start, but 116 km from Fort William, so it says little about the Highland end. Averages of the monthly figures for 1991–2011 (the station's record stops in 2011), worked out by Mooch from the Met Office historic station data, Paisley (Crown copyright, Open Government Licence v3.0). They are not the Met Office's official climate averages.
Questions people ask
- How long does a self-guided West Highland Way holiday take, and what does it cost?
- The 6 whole-trail holidays listed here take 7 to 9 days, from £865 per person including luggage transfer, from 6 firms. Prices are each firm's lowest published price and change by season.
- How hilly is the West Highland Way?
- Mickledore puts the total at over 13,000 feet (4,000 m) of ascent, with the two biggest climbs on the last two days: about 1,650 feet (500 m) up the Devil's Staircase and 2,300 feet (700 m) out of Kinlochleven. The path beside Loch Lomond is rough, over rocks and tree roots. Mickledore
- Do you need to navigate?
- The route is well signposted, but Mickledore says Rannoch Moor is remote and higher ground can be in mist, so you need to be able to navigate in bad weather. Mickledore
- When can you walk it with a firm?
- Hillwalk Tours runs West Highland Way holidays from 21 March to 12 October. Hillwalk Tours

How this was put together
Where a firm sells several versions of the walk, Mooch shows one; for the firms added in November 2026 that is the shortest itinerary covering the whole trail. Price and length always come from the same itinerary on the firm's site, and Mooch's availability checker revisits each page about once a week. Trail facts are from the official trail site, read 8 November 2026.
